Spreadsheet Import Errors

Organiser

Lylac accepts Excel and CSV files for spreadsheet imports. The import window checks the file, maps its columns to Lylac fields and validates every row before anything is imported.

Before you start

You need:

  • an Excel .xlsx or .xls file, or a CSV file;
  • the template for the data you are importing, if one is available;
  • the field rules in Spreadsheet import field formats.

Fix the import

  1. Check the file type

    Open the import window and choose an Excel or CSV file. If Lylac cannot read a CSV, save it again as CSV UTF-8 and upload the new file.

  2. Choose the correct sheet

    If the workbook contains more than one sheet, the Select Sheet step appears. Choose the sheet that contains the rows you want to import.

  3. Review the column mapping

    On Review Mapping, check that each spreadsheet column points to the correct Lylac field. Required fields must be mapped before you can continue. If automatic mapping is unavailable, select the fields manually.

  4. Correct invalid rows

    Turn on Errors only to show rows that need attention. Choose a highlighted cell to edit it. Fix every validation error before continuing.

  5. Finish the import

    Choose Import N rows, review the row count, then choose Confirm Import. Use Export to Excel if you prefer to correct the reviewed data in a spreadsheet first.

Common spreadsheet import problems

Lylac cannot read the file. Check that it is an Excel or CSV file. For an encoding error, save the file as CSV UTF-8 in Excel, then upload it again.

The wrong sheet was selected. Choose Cancel, start the import again and select the sheet that contains the data you need.

Required columns are missing. Map each required Lylac field on Review Mapping. Download the template and compare its headings with your file if you are unsure which fields are required.

Automatic mapping is unavailable or has reached its limit. Continue with manual mapping. Choose a target field for each required column. You can also choose Let Data Buddy try again when that option is available.

The import button is disabled. Review all column mappings and fix every row validation error. Hover over the disabled button to see whether mappings or row errors still need attention.

A value is highlighted. Choose the cell and replace it with a valid value. Date, time and choice fields provide controls that match the required format.

If the file still cannot be imported, choose Export to Excel and contact Lylac Support with the import type and the exact error message.
